Antwerp Belgium, Sept 7, 2018, Lynn M

A street in central Antwerp

A day trip to Antwerp Belgium

Outbound to Leuven & Kiel, Day 10 of 24, September 7, 2018
By:  Lynn M

Continuing our amazing adventure in Brussels, we started our day with a delicious breakfast with our hostess, and her 5 (YES, FIVE) ambassadors! We enjoyed green beans, sautéed carrots and mushrooms, fruit plate, tomato soup and cheese and bread.

We headed out to walk to the bus about 9:00, which took us to the Brussels Central Station where we caught the train to Antwerp, arriving about 11:00.

We had a lovely walk through the streets of Antwerp, passing many McDonald restaurants, local shops, purveyors of chocolate, clothing, shopping malls, and many magnificent architectural structures from the 13th century on. Although this region was decimated by wars, the recovery is a tribute to those who wanted to restore their lives, save their history, and move on.

Lunch at Die Zeven Shaken (7 chess pieces): good typical Belgian food, lots of good Belgian beer

We walked on to the Peter Paul Rubens house where we met several of our FF travel companions on their walk through the architectural treasures in Antwerp. We passed by the magnificent 16th century Cathedral of our Lady, unfortunately closed during construction. We met up for lunch nearby at the Zeven Shaken restaurant for a super lunch of soups, stews, veggies, bread and of course beer and other beverages.

Our walk back to the train station was highlighted by a stop at the Peter Paul Rubens Museum/House, with an amazing display of his art, home furnishings and the art of many of his contemporaries.

We returned to Brussels for another wonderful dinner with Hiro-san and our friends after another valuable day together.
